- 1). Turn on your computer and wait for Windows 98 to load.
- 2). Make sure your computer's hardware meets the specifications for Windows 2000, then insert the Windows 2000 installation disk into the computer's CD drive once Windows 98 has finished loading.
- 3). Click "Yes" if a pop-up box appears asking you if you wish to upgrade to Windows 2000. If the pop-up box does not appear, click "Start" and select "Run." Type "X:\i386\winnt.exe" replacing "X" with the letter of the CD drive containing the Windows 2000 install disk. The Windows 2000 setup program will launch.
- 4). Follow the on-screen instructions as prompted by the Windows 2000 installation process. Most of the process is automated, but you will have to enter a name for your computer, and may also have to input the 25-character Windows 2000 serial key.

- 2). Click the "Install Windows XP" option when the auto-run dialog box opens up. This will launch the setup program for Windows XP.
- 3). Click the drop-down menu and select "Upgrade" from the list of options, then click "Next." Prior to this screen, you may see a dialog box appear warning you that certain programs--such as your antivirus software--are running and may hamper the installation process. Click the "End Process" button to terminate the program before continuing the installation.
- 4). Follow the on-screen instructions as they appear. Most of the setup process is automatic, you will only need to accept the end-user license agreement and choose whether you wish to download updated setup files from the internet prior to the actual installation. Once the upgrade process has finished, your computer will restart and load the new XP operating system.
