- The lenses inside the television set are extremely sensitive, and scratching or otherwise damaging them could require costly repairs. Because of this, only special cleaning cloth is recommended for use on a Magnavox projection TV. A camera lens cleaning cloth is the best option, as this material is specifically designed to clean the types of sensitive surfaces that your TV has. You can get the cloths from most camera stores. Cloths designed for higher-end camera lenses are recommended for a TV.
Beyond the cleaning materials, you may need a screwdriver for removing the TV's back cover. - Be certain that the TV is unplugged before attempting to go anywhere near the internal components. Even when the set is unplugged, certain areas inside can still carry a charge. Try not to touch any parts that are not part of the cleaning process.
Using the screwdriver and keeping the television on a flat, balanced surface, remove the screws from the back cover. There should be several located around the outside edge of the cover. After they're removed, the entire back assembly should pull free. Depending on the Magnavox model, this back cover may have the mirror attached to it. If so, handle it very carefully and place it on another stable surface. Then use the lens cleaner to thoroughly wipe down the mirror.
Some Magnavox projection TV models will have the mirror inside the set. Simply locate where it is mounted, and you should have plenty of room to clean it without damaging other components.
The lenses are inside the TV set and grouped together in a row. There are three of them, and each will need a careful wiping with the lens cleaner. Be sure to wipe the entire lens and around the edges to prevent any smudges or blur lines.
Once you have thoroughly wiped down all three lenses and the mirror, carefully replace the back cover and insert the screws. You should notice an immediate difference in the TV's picture quality, and it should be a long while before you again need to clean the internal components.
