How to Hook up an HDTV With Audio Components Yourself

    • 1). Plug the HDMI cable into one of the "HDMI Out" ports on the high definition television. This is an HD audio connection port used in conjunction with other high definition audio receivers. Connect the other end of the cable into an "HDMI In" port on the receiver.

    • 2). Attach the digital optical audio cable into the "Digital Out" port on the high definition television system. This provides similar quality to the HDMI connection. Plug the other end of the digital optical audio cable into the "Digital In" connection on the surround sound component receiver.

    • 3). Insert the RCA audio cables into the "Audio Out" ports on the TV. This provides analog stereo based audio and is the lowest quality, stand-alone audio connection available. Plug the opposite ends of the cables into the red and white "Audio In" ports on the back side of the stereo system.
