- 1). Remove the back panel of your Excursion using a flat-head jewelers' screwdriver. There are two small notches around the outer perimeter of the panel. Place the end of the jeweler's screwdriver into one of these notches and pry the cap from the back of the watch. This may take several attempts, depending on how tightly the manufacturer's seal between the cap and watch is.
- 2). Pull the battery from the mechanical back of the timepiece with a pair of jeweler's tweezers. The battery will not pull straight out, but must be loosened and pulled out by exerting more pressure on one side of the battery to loosen it from its moorings, as with standard batteries in the back of an electrical device, such as a remote.
- 3). Buy a replacement battery based on the specifications of your specific Excursion watch. Your Excursion's battery will be sized differently from other Excursions depending on the functions (chronometer or basic timepiece), size and waterproof capabilities (zero to fifteen ATMs). Replacement batteries can be purchased at most jeweler stores, drug stores and big box stores. The easiest way to figure out what kind of replacement battery your watch needs is to take it to one of these stores and compare the serial lettering and numbering on the top of the old battery with the serial lettering and numbering of the different watch batteries available.
- 4). Insert the replacement battery in the opposite way from how you removed it. Make sure the bottom of the battery is facing down into the watch's mechanics.
- 5). Replace the back panel by hand. The panel should emit a satisfying click when it is locked in place.
