How does emotions play a role in acne? Well, as you can see emotions trigger some organs of the body to produce chemicals which affect the physiology of the human body.
For example, when someone is emotionally stressed, the body produces the hormone cortisol which triggers the oil glands to produce more oil.
More oil in the skin pores causes bacterial overpopulation, since acne-causing bacteria rely on facial oil to survive.
Stress therefore indirectly increases the population of acne causing bacteria.
Emotional stress also impairs the immune system which reduces its ability to fight inflammation.
It is very well known that stress also reduces the ability of the human body to repair damage skin cells.
The more stressed you are, the longer it would take for the body to repair any damage skin cells.
It is very important that damaged skin cells be repaired as soon as possible to avoid deep and permanent scarring.
So how can you avoid emotional stress? easy, you can do meditation or some deep breathing exercise.
Deep and slow breathing relaxes the mind and body.
Stress can also be minimized by taking at least 8 hours of sleep and going to bed before midnight.
It is not enough that you get 8 hours of sleep alone, the time that you get to sleep is also important.
Some dermatologist even refuse to treat acne patients that sleep past midnight since it would just counteract the beneficial effects of anti-acne medications.
B-Vitamins are helpful also in reducing stress, particularly Vitamin-B3, Vitamin-B5 and Vitamin-B6.
B-Vitamins helps improve nerve and brain functions, they also help in the production of brain chemicals needed for optimum brain function.
