Acne is an inflammatory skin disease that is caused by biological variations in the pilosebaseous units (a dermal structure consisted of hair follicle and its oil secreting sebaceous gland) of the skin.
"Acne vulgaris", the most common form, usually appears during puberty.
Acne is often caused by excessive oil or "sebum" production in the body.
The glands secrete an excess amount of oil that, mixed with dead skin cells, block hair follicles.
Often, people who eat fatty, oily food experience this problem Many body parts can get affected by acne.
The most common of which are the face, arms, chest, etc.
The oil trapped in the blocked pores creates a perfect environment for the proliferation of bacteria.
This causes the body's natural inflammatory response which in turn crates a lesion commonly known as acne.
Rashes may occur throughout the body though the face, upper arms, back and chest are especially prone.
Acne is often seen as blackish elevations or pale yellow and/or small whitish bumps.
More severely inflamed rashes look like boils and have a reddish bump.
Often, after the acne subsides, an unsightly scar is left behind.
Acne is common in puberty and adolescence as a body response to excess levels of testosterone.
Acne occurs when higher hormonal levels cause an increase in oil secretion.
There is no way, however, to predict when the problem will end or whether or not the acne will recur.
Acne affects almost everybody at one stage or another.
Aside from leaving physical scars, acne often leaves emotional ones too from embarrassment or depression.
Therefore, acne is a problem that should be taken seriously in order to promote happier, healthier lives.
