- Make an appointment.
That's right: Schedule your sleeping pattern like you would a business meeting, or any other important task that needs to get done at or by a certain time.
The key is sticking to a routine (yes, even on weekends), so your body will begin to adapt and "know" when it needs to go to sleep and when to wake up. - Turn your bedroom into a black hole.
When you lay down tonight, with the lights off, look around your bedroom.
Are there lights blinking on your cable box? Could you light a runway with the light emitted by your massive digital alarm clock? The darker your room is, the more likely you are to maintain a deep and consistent sleeping pattern throughout the night.
All it takes is small pieces of electrical tape or black construction paper over any small lights and facing your alarm clock against a wall. - Wear yourself out.
Have you ever seen your kids running around at full speed and thought to yourself, "Boy, are they going to sleep well tonight!" Well, use the same technique on yourself.
Not only is exercising a great way to get in shape and improve your overall health, even a brief 30 minute session of light cardio or weight training will prepare your body for a restful night's sleep.
One catch: Don't exercise within about 3 hours of going to sleep, or it could have the opposite effect and keep you awake!
The sooner you begin, the faster you will see results, and you'll wish you had found these sleeping tips a long time ago!
