- 1). Determine how you will connect the stereo to the TV. Look on the rear panel of the TV to find which options are available. Look for outlets that have both audio and video inputs. S-video outlets are only for video and using one will require another connection to the TV for audio. RCA jacks are three circular outlets colored yellow, red, and white. An HDMI input resembles a flattened top hat. Composite inputs are arranged with three outlets at the top (colored similarly to the RCA jacks) and two additional outlets closely beneath.
- 2). Determine what outlets are available on the rear panel of your home audio receiver. Choose your method of connection with this priority for best fidelity: HDMI, Composite cables, RCA jack--in that order.
- 3). Connect the chosen cable to the back of the receiver and then to the back panel of the television.
- 4). Turn on the TV.
- 5). Change the "source" for the TV to "AUX" or a more specific mode. If your TV has only RCA jacks on the back, the "AUX" setting will be the only source mode available. Televisions that have more than one option will list each option separately. Select the option that corresponds to how you have chosen to connect your television to the stereo.
- 6). Turn on the receiver and choose the "TV" or "video" mode. Turn up the volume on the receiver. You will hear the content of your television playing through the stereo's speakers.
