How to Clean Berber Rugs

    • 1). Vacuum your Berber rugs every week or as needed to lift light dirt and soil.

    • 2). Dust the carpet with a light coating of baking soda to deodorize and freshen the rug. Let the baking soda sit atop the rug overnight when possible, or at least for a few hours, and vacuum the rugs again to collect the baking soda.

    • 3). Fill a spray bottle with vinegar and mist across the rugs to disinfect. The vinegar safely kills bacteria without discoloring or damaging the rugs.

    • 4). Remove stains with washing soda. Fill the sink with about 1 quart cold water and 1/4 cup washing soda. Swish a cleaning rag in the water and wring out the rag.

    • 5). Blot the cloth over the stains and continue until all stain residue is removed. Allow the carpeting to air dry and vacuum the carpet once more to restore the pile and prevent a matted carpet look.
