How to Remove Cigarette Tar Stains From Leather

    • 1). Add moisturizing leather soap to 1 gallon of hot water in a bucket, according to the soap package directions.

    • 2). Wet a clean cloth in the soap solution and wring it out so the cloth is merely damp. Scrub the leather surface with the soapy cloth to remove the cigarette tar stains and odors. As the brown stain transfers to the cloth, rinse off the cloth and apply more soap solution. Continue to wash off the leather to remove all of the tar stains; change to a fresh bucket of soap solution when the water turns brown from the cigarette tar stains.

Treat any stubborn cigarette tar stains by scrubbing them with a soft toothbrush dipped in the soap solution. Dry the leather off with a clean cloth.

    • 4). Mix 2 tbsp. each of white vinegar and linseed oil in a bowl. Apply the solution with a clean cloth and buff it into the leather to neutralize any lingering cigarette odor and add shine and moisture to the leather.
