Brooks Stairlifts Company

Mr.
Frederick Brooks worked as an engineer for Daimler before entering into the Stairlift business.
His wife, Grace, suffered from a chronic immune disorder, rheumatoid arthritis.
The disease made it very painful and increasingly difficult to climb and descend the staircase in their home, so the husband, devoted to his wife's well-being, thought about creating a mechanical aid to help her mobility on the stairs.
His thoughts culminated in his first ever stair lift chair, which happened to be an intelligent design despite being designed to be operated and powered by a nylon rope.
Cognizant of the increasingly aging demographic of the UK and other established Western societies, and happy with his first model, Mr.
Brooks resolved to start a business around creating his stairlift.
And Brooks Stairlifts was born, in 1973, a year after Mr.
Brooks' first stairlift.
The company has since expanded considerably, and although much more technology is now leveraged by the company, it stays true to its original product.
In fact, Brooks only offers one stairlift product.
It is made only for straight staircases.
The entire company is built around just one product, but this amount of focus results in a truly well-designed and well-executed product.
Called the Brooks Lincoln, it is powered by a DC power pack that needs no maintenance, and recharges from a power supply at the end of each trip.
The power pack makes for a very smooth and quiet ride, and the added benefit that the stairlift will not leave its operator stranded, in the event of a power outage.
Now, with over a dozen companies in the lucrative industry, Brooks continues to remain competitive by continuously refining its market focus and the design of its sole product.
