What Is a Tongue Touch Keypad?

    TongueTouch Keypad

    • The TongueTouch Keypad is an orthodontic appliance that fits in a person’s mouth like a dental retainer. It has nine pressure-sensitive buttons that the user touches with her tongue to activate. The keypad transmits signals wirelessly to its receiver, which is connected to the device or devices that it controls such as a computer or a wheelchair. An interactive LCD menu display gives the user visual feedback about what buttons she has touched with her tongue.

    Wheelchair

    • You can connect the TongueTouch Keypad to a motorized wheelchair and use it to manipulate the wheelchair’s joystick. By pressing different buttons on the keypad with your tongue, you can make the wheelchair roll forward, backward or turn to the left or right. You also use the buttons to start and stop the wheelchair.

    Computer

    • The TongueTouch Keypad can connect to a computer to enable the user to perform various tasks, such as move the cursor to select files, launch applications and move items on the screen. You could also use the keypad to pick on-screen letters from a virtual keyboard to type text, such as an email message or a search engine query.

    Environment

    • A person who has difficulty moving can use the TongueTouch Keypad to activate appliances. For example, you could press a button with your tongue to activate the call button to summon a nurse during the night. You could also use it to turn on a device, such as a TV set, or to turn lights on and off.
