- 1). Place your car in park with the parking brake on. Then turn the ignition on to your car. Do not start your car in a closed garage.
- 2). Turn your headlights on low, rather than the bright setting.
- 3). Step out of your vehicle and go to the front while it is running.
- 4). Look at the headlights to determine whether both are functioning.
- 5). Turn your car off. If you have determined that one or both of your headlights are not functioning, you will need to investigate a few more things before you determine that the bulb has burned out.
- 6). Check the electrical connection on the back of the headlight to determine if it is fully connected or if the wiring has gone bad due to corrosion or corruption, which may appear as a substance on the wires. Rotate the headlight to ensure that it is fully screwed into the socket. If everything with the electrical connection checks out, then your headlight is likely burned out and will need to be replaced.
