How To Decorate Lunch Bags With Hearts

    Peek-a-boo Hearts

    • 1). Lay a lunch bag flat on the table with the folded bottom face down and the bag opening facing away from you. Draw a freehand heart shape about 1/3 as tall as the total bag height, centered between the open top and the bottom, at least 1 inch narrower at the heart's widest point than the width of the bag.

    • 2). Pinch the center of the heart shape so that you are only cutting through one side of the bag. Cut into that side of the bag to make a starter hole for your scissors. Cut from the starter hole to just outside the line you drew to make the heart. Cut along the outside of the line and save the waste piece for later.

    • 3). Open the bag all the way and turn it over so that the cut side is face-down on the table. Mix 1 tablespoon of white craft glue with 1 teaspoon of water in a small bowl. Brush the glue around the outside edges of the heart-shaped hole, inside the bag.

    • 4). Place a paper doily best-side down inside the bag, covering the glued areas and the heart-shaped hole. Press to ensure that the doily makes full contact with the bag and the glue.

    • 5). Keep the bag open while it dries. Continue making peek-a-boo heart bags until you run out of supplies. Allow the bags to dry for two to four hours before using them.

    Scrapbook Hearts

    • 1). Cut heart shapes from greeting cards, magazines, postcards, gift wrap or construction paper, using scrapbook scissors.

    • 2). Brush thinned white craft glue onto the back of each heart and press it onto the bag, rubbing from the center of each heart to the edges to remove any air bubbles. Wipe away any excess glue with a damp rag or paper towel.

    • 3). Outline each heart in white craft glue. Press sequin string, bead string or metallic cord into the glue to further accentuate the heart. Outline the hearts in glitter glue if you do not wish to use the fancy trims.

    • 4). Allow the bags to dry for two to four hours before using them.

    Stamped Hearts

    • 1). Give each child or participant an apron or smock to protect clothing. Use rain ponchos for people in wheelchairs, covering both the individual and as much of the chair as possible. Cut heart shapes from kitchen sponges, or use ready-made heart stamps.

    • 2). Pour 1 to 2 tablespoons of the lightest paint color you wish to use into a small bowl. Thin the paint with water as needed, until it covers the bottom of the bowl rather than sitting in a lump.

    • 3). Dip the ready-made stamp or the heart-shaped sponge into the paint and press it onto a piece of scrap paper to check how well the paint covers the stamp, and to ensure that you have picked up enough paint to make a good impression.

    • 4). Press the stamp onto the paper bag and pull it away. Repeat making stamps until the heart image is too faint to see.

    • 5). Reload the stamp with paint and continue until all the bags are stamped on one side. Allow the paint to dry completely. If you want to stamp both sides, repeat the process on the other side of the bag. Allow the second side to dry before filling the bags with your chosen items.
