- 1). Open your photo file by double-clicking it or going to the File menu in Photoshop, selecting "Open" and finding the file.

Reduce your file by modifying the resolution. This is called re-sampling a photo. In this box, change the resolution, or pixels per inch, or the overall size. Make sure that you have maintain proportions selected during this process. Click "OK" when you are finished. - 4). Go to the File menu and select "Save As."
- 5). Determine where you would like to save the file, then press Return/Enter.

Determine the level of quality you would like. This operates on a scale of 1 to 12, with 1 being the absolute minimum and 12 being the highest possible quality. Then click "OK."
