- 1). Alter your iTunes preferences. Click the "Edit" drop-down menu (the iTunes drop-down menu if you own a Mac) and select the "Preferences" button. A "Preferences" pop-up menu appears. Under the "General" tab, go to the second section and click the "Import Settings..." button. This opens up a list of file type choices to which you can convert.
- 2). Choose a file type and select "OK" on both the "Import Settings..." and "Preferences" menu. The "Import Settings..." menu offers MP3, AAC, AIFF, WAV and Apple lossless file types.
- 3). Select a song or multiple songs you would like to convert. Select the "Advanced" drop-down menu and you see a "Create ____ Version" option with your selected file type in the blank. Click the option, and iTunes copies the file and places a duplicate in your library. Find the file itself in the iTunes music folder next to the original file.
