How to Remove Permanent Glue

    Fabric, Carpet, Clothing, Upholstery

    • 1). Dip an old toothbrush in acetone, making sure it is completely saturated.

    • 2). Use the toothbrush to scrub the stain, brushing briskly beginning on the outside of the stain and working your way into the center of it.

    • 3). Continue the process until the stain is removed. Depending on the size of the stain and how long it has sat untreated, you may need to perform a few applications.

    • 4). Rinse the fabric. Use plain water and a rag to scrub the acetone. Place the fabric in a washing machine if possible.

    Hard Surfaces

    • 1). Dip a cotton ball into the acetone and dab it onto the glue to soften it.

    • 2). Peel the glue off with a scraper. Depending on the type of surface, use either a plastic or metal scraper, but don't use metal if you are working on wood or another surface prone to scratching.

    • 3). Repeat the acetone application, if necessary. Continue to scrape and wipe off the surface using a damp or wet rag.

    Skin

    • 1). Dampen a cotton swab with acetone. Use the least amount possible to lessen the chance of irritating your skin.

    • 2). Use your fingers and peel the glue from your skin. Use a damp rag to rub your skin and loosen the glue. Do not apply more acetone unless absolutely necessary. If you happen to glue your fingers together, have someone help you by applying the acetone to where your fingers are bonded. Gently work your fingers back and forth to loosen the glue.

    • 3). Wash the affected area with soap and water. Acetone can dry out skin quickly, so apply a generous amount of lotion to help restore moisture.
