- Drivers must exchange license numbers, insurance policy information, phone numbers, vehicle identification (year, make, model and color) and license plate numbers.
- Any information about the accident will be required by the insurance company. This includes a description of the location, the events leading up to the accident and any statements from the drivers. If photos of the accident and the area are available, the insurance company will require these as well.
- If anyone is injured in the accident and requires medical attention, the insurance company will need to know the nature of the injury, the medical center the person was taken to and the method of transportation to the medical center.
- If the police come to the scene of an accident, ask for a police report. If there is an injury and someone requires medical attention, the officer must write a report and each driver has the right to get a copy.
- If any witnesses were around, ask for names and contact numbers. Witnesses include other drivers and pedestrians who had a clear view of the area and the event.
