- 1). Use a paper towel to pull up any hair that you can see around the mouth of the drain.
- 2). Use a screwdriver to remove the drain cover (some covers screw off by hand). Use the screwdriver to dig inside of the drain and pull out any bundles of hair near the top.
- 3). Use a plunger to help pull the clog up from inside of the pipes. Be sure to insert a wet rag inside of the tub's overflow hole so that the plunging action will be effective. Fill the tub with about two inches of hot water and then plunge the open drain until the hair clog comes up.
- 4). Use a Turbo Snake to remove hair balls from deep down in your shower drain. This tool is equipped with a "hair snagging" top that looks like a mascara brush. Insert the snaking tool down as far as it will go, twist it around a few times, and then pull it back up to remove the hair.
- 5). Use a clog loosening product like Drano to get rid of hair in your shower drain if all else fails. The chemicals in Drano and similar products are corrosive enough to break down the hairs and move them along in the drain pipe.
