Correct Technique to Place Gulp Waxies on Jig Hooks

    Thread

    • Most anglers thread a real wax worm onto their hook by jabbing the hook through the head of the worm, then threading the waxy lengthwise through the center of its body until the point of the hook just barely protrudes out the opposite end of the worm. The shape of the hook curls the waxy into a "J." Gulp Waxies can be threaded on identically, though you may want to poke more of the hook point out of the tail of the artificial worm and set the hook a bit harder than you'd need to do when using a much softer, real wax worm.

    Impale

    • Stab the hook through the Gulp Waxie crossways at some point in it's body. Most anglers prefer poking it through near the head or tail, letting the whole length of the worm's body dangle. Others have luck impaling the Gulp worm through at the midpoint of the body. This is called rigging it "whacky" style.

    Weedless

    • It's possible to rig a jig weedless-style using a Gulp wax worm. Impale the body through the end, the same as when threading it on the hook, but allow the point to come out the side of the body 1/8-inch below the head. Slide the worm around the bend of the hook until it's nearly touching the body of the jig. Impale the point of the hook into the tail, so the body of the worm spans the gap and prevents weeds from snagging on the inside bend of the hook.

    Bunches

    • Sometimes fish want a big bite. Instead of impaling a single Gulp worm on the hook of the jig, put three or four of them on the hook. The additional worms increase the size of the visual picture the fish sees and triples or quadruples the amount of Gulp scent and flavor dissolving in the water.
