Let's see, who among you prefer TV series over movies? Hmm... oh yeah right, I do too. I just love television series. Why? It's because whenever there's a cliff-hanger at the end of one episode, you don't need to wait for months or a year just so you can find out what will happen next. You can simply wait for it the next day or week. If you are a hardcore fan like I am, a day is just too long especially when the greatest shows ever to air on TV feature smart and smooth episodes every after episode.
Now, as I am a hardcore fan as I mentioned earlier, I've watched quite a number of television series and met the many characters TV could ever offer. Two individuals that sparked my inclination to write this composition are probably the best nerds in national TV: Alec Hardison (Leverage) and Seymour Birkhoff (Nikita). Here's a thought: Who is the better nerd? Let's find out!
Shall we begin with their abilities?
Birkhoff has a degree on Computer Science and Engineering. He attended college and had all the necessary education any nerd would be interested into taking. He builds his own stuff, when nothing seems to suit his tastes. On the other hand, Hardison never really been into school from the start as his occupation as a hacker might have started during his adolescent years, meaning there's more time for fun than actual education. He never went to college. He builds stuff too.
VERDICT: Hardison's win.
REASON: Hardison was able to hack into Pentagon when he was only twelve-years old. Both are knowledgeable in the field of engineering and can really construct optimal gadgets whenever it's needed. I'm pretty sure they are both capable of making their own replacement parts for their worn-out gadgets. What makes Hardison the better nerd is that he can build anything even without a formal schooling in engineering; something Birkhoff took four or five years to master.
Moving on to their people skills...
Birkhoff was a social nerd. He made friends while in school that he lost when he was recruited by Division. The only people he considered friends were Nikita and Michael, and even with that, he still have his doubts (at least that's what it looked like in the first two seasons). Hardison never really had friends either... until he met Nate Ford. Nate stirred him into trusting people completely during con jobs letting the team touch his inventions, computer, and tablet accessories as well. This of course gained him the friends he will keep close till the end of his days.
VERDICT: Tie.
REASON: Birkhoff's detachment from people rooted from his good heart to protect other people from getting hurt. It's not because he's a buff or anything. It's simply because he is linked to powerful forces that can harm anyone that comes close to him. Hardison's early years weren't as bright as Birkhoff's was. He never did have any friends back in school. He finds it hard to trust anyone. But that changed as he grew older.
Let's go over the romance section.
Birkhoff showed his romantic side on the third season of Nikita to a girl named Sonya. Sonya is the New Division's IT which rivalled Birkhoff. They were enemies at first, but that didn't last that their strong feelings for each other turned them to become closer and thus reaching the romantic stage of their relationship. Hardison, on the other hand, had a thing for oddities as he swept away the enigmatic Parker since the day he met her. It took them three seasons until they finally reached the ripening of their emotions for each other.
VERDICT: N/A
REASON: This one's for you to decide. We're here to talk about the dorkiness of the two and not their romantic sides. *chuckle*
And it's not only the romantic portion that I am having trouble discussing with the rest of you. But if you ask my BIASED opinion, I'll go for Hardison. He's a genius. Age of the geek.
