How to Get Pet Hair Out of a Pile Carpet

    • 1). Vacuum your carpet thoroughly. Start with a clean bag or canister, which will increase your vacuum's suction. Empty the bag and clean the filters and hoses if they become clogged with pet hair. If possible, use a powerful vacuum made to clean pet hair.

    • 2). Pull deeply embedded pet hair from your carpet with a carpet rake. Move the rake back and forth to remove the pet hair. Alternatively, use a squeegee with a long handle. As you move the squeegee back and forth across your carpet, the rubber will loosen the embedded pet hair.

    • 3). Pick up large clumps of hair that have been loosened by the carpet rake or squeegee, then vacuum the carpet. If necessary, repeat the process until you've removed all of the deeply-embedded pet hair.
