- 1). Decide on a size for your largest bead swags from 12 to 20 inches, depending on the size of your tree and your personal preference.
- 2). Begin on a lower branch behind the tree so the lowest tier of swags ends at or before the lowest branch of the tree. Swags should not hang in the empty space below the branches.
- 3). Secure one end of your bead strand in place on the Christmas tree branch with an ornament hook, twisty tie or thread.
- 4). Swag a "U" shape across your chosen distance, ending the swag over the center tip of the next branch.
- 5). Continue swagging beads around this level of the Christmas tree, ending behind the tree.
- 6). Swag up in diagonal angle to reach the next level of branches behind the tree. Your next starting point should not be directly over your first starting point; otherwise, your swags will look rigid.
- 7). Begin your first "U"-shaped swag, ensuring that your second level of swags dips where the first level of swags goes up at the branches.
- 8). Continue making swags around each level of tree, alternating dips over rises.
- 9). Reduce the size of your swags as you reach the top of the Christmas tree. The smallest swags should be below your tree topper.

End the final swag behind the tree and secure beads into place with an ornament hook, twisty tie or thread.
