Bowling can be traced to ancient Egypt in 300 A.D. The game was played with rocks and sticks standing up. Although bowling has been around for the longest time, it has adapted to new generations of bowlers. Though Egyptian by birth, bowling seems to have been adopted by the United States as one of its favorite children.

Plastic balls are made of, naturally, plastic and they are the most commonly used bowling balls. Although they are the cheapest, they still work rather well. Just don't use plastic bowling balls on older lanes because they need the greased up new lanes for them to be able to perform at their best.

Resin balls are some of the fastest bowling balls that you can use. The bowling ball mixture gets pieces of resin added so that the ball can find more grip on the lanes. Particle balls are made of resin and pieces of glass and are a step up from the resin balls. Some professionals really enjoy using them. Urethane balls have a tendency to avoid the gutters. That's why they seem to be so popular with beginner bowlers or just plain bad bowlers.

Bowling balls generally range from 8 pounds and up by two pound increments, up until 16 pounds. However, you can still get the sizes in between like 11, 13, and 15 pounds each. The sizes of the bowling ball holes vary in accordance with the preferences of those using them. The age of the bowler also will determine the size of the bowling ball halls that are most preferred. Kids bowling balls are the same size as regular bowling balls. However, they are often more colorful with many designs and with some displaying their favorite cartoons.

With respect to the rental of bowling shoes, a great many bowlers prefer to wear their own shoes for a variety of reasons and not rent them. However, there are some good reasons why rental is preferable. First, the rental shoes do not scuff up the lanes like normal shoes would. Second, the soles of the rental shoes also help you slide but keep you from falling when you are going to throw the bowling ball.

You don't have to make a trip to the traditional bowling lanes to bowl. That's because there are tons of bowling games on the market. They range from the bar style bowling games to the home console games.
