- 1). Take your cuttings in May, June or July. Take the cuttings from the soft, succulent, new growth of viburnum plants just as they begin to harden. The shoots are ready when they snap easily when bent.
- 2). Cut the shoot off just below a leaf joint. Leave the heel attached to the plant. Leave four or five pairs of leaves at the top of the cutting, but trim off the remaining lower leaves.
- 3). Dip the bottom end of the cuttings in hormone powder. Place the cuttings in between some wet paper towels or newspapers to prevent them from drying out.
- 4). Prepare a pot with moist potting soil and plant the cutting in it, with the bottom about 3 inches or so into the soil. Water the cutting regularly, keeping the soil moist but not saturated.
- 5). Transplant the rooted cutting after two to three weeks, when the plant shows no signs of wilting.
