How to Become a Buddhist Priest

    • 1). Familiarize yourself with Buddhist teachings. Attend some Buddhist ceremonies and meet with experienced Buddhists to decide if you are ready for the commitment to Buddhism.

    • 2). Study the history of Buddhism. Educate yourself about the origins of Buddhism and major changes and divisions in the religion that have occurred over the years.

    • 3). Choose a Buddhist path. While both the Theravada and Mahayana schools of Buddhism follow the essential teachings of Buddha, they disagree about the canon of Buddhist teachings and the ultimate way to reach enlightenment.

    • 4). Become a follower of Buddhism. You will need to begin at the lowest levels of Buddhist faith before becoming fully devoted to the religion. This will involve introducing Buddhist teachings into your daily life, meditating and attending Buddhist gatherings.

    • 5). Find a Buddhist temple willing to train new Buddhist priests. This will be the ultimate commitment to Buddhism and will involve years of training and study in the teachings of Buddha.
