Thanksgiving is upon us and you may be thinking about what kinds of foods you can pick at without ruining everything you've worked for thus far.
Fear not! Thanksgiving can be a healthful holiday feast! First and foremost, focus on the turkey.
Turkey is a great source of protein and will fill you up fast.
Eat enough and maybe the tryptophan will make you sleep through dessert! Pick and choose your carbs but don't go overboard! Thanksgiving can easily become a Carb Fest.
Just think of the proportion of carbs served versus protein served at the feast: Protein: turkey Carbs: sweet potatoes, squash, stuffing, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, creamed (insert vegetable here), dinner rolls, etc Take a sampling of the carb sources.
If you try a small amount of a few things, you will be satisfied without destroying your hard work! Also be conscious of what has been added to the carbs (if you haven't prepared the feast yourself).
Are the sweet potatoes drowning in brown sugar? Can you see the green beans through the cream sauce? Lastly, enjoy a small amount of your favorite dessert...
AND SEND THE REST AWAY! Surely you have friends and family that would be glad to demolish the rest of the pies.
Your metabolism can take care of one meal but it gets bogged down if that one meal turns into two, or three, or six! If you think about it in terms of a bonfire: Spray a little water on it and the fire will rebuild itself.
Spray a little water for an extended period of time and the fire will go out.
Keep the fire burning!
