- 1). Purchase pH strips that can test levels with saliva. Avoid eating or drinking just before you use the strips, and do not brush your teeth 30 minutes before testing.
- 2). Swallow a few times to remove old saliva from your mouth. This will also promote new saliva production. Spit into the plastic spoon.
- 3). Dip one testing strip into the saliva in the spoon. Remove the testing strip, and wait for the color to change.
- 4). Compare the color on the testing strip to the chart included with your testing strips. A desired range is between 6.8 and 7.2. Chart your testing over a few weeks to determine your body's average pH level.
