- 2). Pour an ample amount of stripping agent on the old rag. Wipe it on the old wood. Wait 5 minutes. Use the scraper to get off anything on the old wood. Always wipe off with one of the old rags after each scrape.
- 3). Take a piece of sandpaper. Start sanding the old wood. Sanding helps to get rid of stains or bumps on the wood. Sanding by hand will take longer, but you will have more control over the work this way.
- 4). Wipe off the piece of sanded wood with a damp cloth to get rid of any dust from the sanding that might still be on there.
- 5). Dip a clean rag in the stain color of your preference. Apply an even, light coat to the wood. With another clean and dry rag, wipe off any excess stain from your wood. Let dry during the night.
- 6). Make sure that the stain is completely dry. Apply a coat of finish to the old wood. Let dry for 24 hours before using. Enjoy your newly refinished wood piece for years to come.
