Snoring Prevention Devices

Living with someone who snores can be a stressful past-time. Apart from the sleep disturbance for the partner, the health issues associated with snoring for the person involved can be lethal.

I have listed a number of devices used by people in an endeavour to help them prevent snoring.

Anti Snoring Pillow

Improper sleeping positions can cause the air passage in the throat to stretch and tighten making it somewhat difficult for air to circulate. These specially designed pillows help to relax air passages by releasing throat stretching, which in turn helps prevent snoring.

Mouthpiece

This is a new development. Mouthpieces can vary in design and can be single or double in terms of the actual guard. The most effective mouthpieces are those with the combination of upper and lower guards connected with a hinge system. This hinge allows the person to breath naturally and even talk if required.

The best are those that make the bottom jaw protrude forward when the mouthpiece is inserted. This allows immediate relief from snoring.

ZQuiet is one of these types of mouthpieces and you can read more detail about this USA manufactured mouthpiece.

Throat Spray

Natural snoring sprays contain essential oils which when applied to the throat provides a mild lubrication to reduces a portion of vibration deep into the throat and can reduce snoring. It appears these sprays have only a limited use as the body becomes use to it.

I would recommend you consult your Doctor before trying any of these sprays, just to make sure they will not have a negative effect on your personal body chemistry.

Nasal Strips

Nasal strips are used to assist open nasal airways to increase the amount of airflow. Under normal circumstances these are made from plastic. Construction costs are very minimal and therefore they present as a cheap alternative. They are an external devices and considered to be safe and effective. Athletes use them to increase the level of air intake.

Sleep Position Monitor

Devices are set up to beep when the person snores. This device is simply to monitor the sleep position of the snorer and help identify the best position to prevent snoring. Some only snore on their back and if so the device will activate and encourage an alternative quiet sleeping position.

In simple terms the device is a sleep training device.Unfortunately it has limited effect.

Snore Ball

This very interesting concept works by placing a ball within bed clothing in a position the person sleeps in and snores. As an example, if a person snores on their back then the ball is located on the back to prompt the snores from not lying on their back. It is generally only effective for those who snore on their back. It trains the snorer to not lie in their snoring position.

This is small a selection of snoring prevention devices only. Medical conditions also cause snoring, so many of these devices will have limited use. A major medical condition like sleep apnea will always cause snoring.

Checking with your family Doctor is always a wise move.
