How to Connect a Car Alarm System

    • 1). Set the alarm control module's wiring harness in front of you. Using the alarm's manual as a reference, identify the harness wires and label them accordingly with masking tape and a marker. At a minimum, the harness should have provisions for the shock sensor, power door locks, siren and LED indicator. Locate fused wire to identify the module's power wire.

    • 2). Select a location to install the module, such as behind the glove box or under the dashboard or seat. Mount the module using a metal bracket or Velcro. Route the module's power wire through the firewall on the driver's side of the car and into the engine compartment to the battery.

    • 3). Disconnect the red positive (+) terminal wire from the car's battery using a Phillips screwdriver to loosen the terminal bolt. Attach the module's fused power wire to the battery terminal post. Reattach the positive terminal wire to the battery, using a Phillips screwdriver to tighten the bolt.

    • 4). Select a drill bit with a diameter slightly larger than the diameter of the alarm's hood pin switch. Select a point near the hood's latch to drill a mounting hole for the hood pin switch. Check the area below the drilling location to ensure that other components or wiring are not in danger. Drill the mounting hole and insert the hood switch pin. Tighten the switch's lock nut with a wrench to fasten the switch to hood support.

    • 5). Select a location within the engine compartment to install the siren and shock sensor, ensuring that neither component will hamper the operation of the motor or other moving parts. Drill pilot holes into the car's frame with an electric drill. Mount the siren to the frame using self-tapping metal screws. Follow the same procedure to install the alarm's shock sensor.

    • 6). Route the wiring from the hood pin switch, siren and shock sensor through the engine compartment's firewall into the car's interior cabin. Follow the same path you used in Step 2 to route the alarm module's power wire. Plug the wires into the alarm module.

    • 7). Locate the car's fuse box, which is usually concealed under the dashboard on the driver's side or behind the passenger's kick panel. Using the diagram printed on the fuse box, locate the fuses for the car's parking lights and power door locks. Locate the wiring that connects to both fuses. Splice into these wires with the appropriate wires from the alarm module using T-tap electrical connectors.

    • 8). Select a visible location for the alarm's LED indicator and drill a hole with an electric drill. Install the LED indicator into the hole and route its wiring to the control module. Follow the same procedure to install the valet switch, selecting a concealed area to install the switch.

    • 9). Test the alarm system with the alarm's remote control. Check that the parking lights flash and that all doors lock and unlock when the alarm is armed or disabled. Check that all of the alarm's wiring is connected properly if the alarm does not operate properly.
