- 1). Turn off the power to the AC unit. If the AC unit doesn't have its own power switch, turn the power off through the circuit breaker.
- 2). Remove any leaves or debris from around the outside unit.
- 3). Remove any screws, and lift the cover off the outside unit according to the manufacturer's instructions. Set the cover aside.
- 4). Vacuum any debris from between the unit's metal fins with a soft brush attachment. If you accidentally bend the fins out of shape, carefully bend them back after cleaning.
- 5). Spray the coils with a garden hose to rinse away any leftover debris. Avoid spraying water directly onto the fan at the top of the unit.
- 6). Replace the AC cover and any screws. Turn the power back on.
