Peter Hedges" Book "The Heights" Picked Up by Focus Features
April 6, 2010 - Peter Hedges' latest book, The Heights, has been acquired by Focus Features, with the author set to adapt, produce and direct the feature film. Hedges previously adapted his book What's Eating Gilbert Grape for the screen, as well as adapting Nick Hornby's book About a Boy. Hedges other credits include writing and directing Pieces of April (starring Katie Holmes) and Dan in Real Life (starring Steve Carell).
Hedges' The Heights just hit stores in March and centers around a Brooklyn couple and their children.
Their seemingly perfect relationship is put to the test with "the arrival of alluring, wealthy new neighbors."
Focus president of production John Lyons stated in a press release announcing the acquisition: "I'm thrilled to be working with Peter again. He is a filmmaker of great warmth and humor, and with The Heights we will be taking full advantage of his considerable skills as both screenwriter and director."
There's no word yet on when Focus expects to start production on The Heights.
