Playing drums can be a fun experience, but as a person progresses in his skills, he soon may find out that playing this instrument also poses some challenges that he may not have known about when he first started beating on them.
While there are a few problems that can occur while playing on a drum set, a person can use a few tips or tricks to minimize the effect of these problems.
Some tips include:

• Slippage - Drumsticks have a tendency to slip out of the hands of a drummer after he has played for a while and his hands become sweaty.
  However there is an easy fix for this.
  By going to a home repair store and buying some shrink tubing, a person can have all he needs to reduce his problem.
  This tubing will shrink onto the drum stick when heated with a hair dryer.
  This will adhere the tubing to the stick and result in a place for a drummer to grip onto the sticks.
  In addition to shrink tubing, hockey grip tape can also be used.
  Just as it is effective for hockey players, it can be just as effective for drummers.
  
• Use video - A person who has some bad habits while drumming can find it hard to stop doing them if he or she does not notice them.
  The best way for a drummer to notice his bad habits is to videotape himself while playing.
  Not only will a person be able to see the flaws in his technique, but he also will be able to see if he has a goofy look on his face that he might want to change while playing on the drums.
  
• Say and play - One of the tips that some drummers use when playing a new rhythm is to say the rhythm aloud a few times first and then proceed to play it.
  By saying and playing, a person allows his brain to have another method of remembering the rhythm.
  
• Write it out - A person who transcribes the music he is meant to play can also benefit from the effective method of learning and memorizing the music he needs to play.
  
• Use a metronome - A metronome can be a valuable piece of equipment for a drummer who is learning a new rhythm.
  The metronome can allow the drummer to keep the beat.
  Because keeping the beat can be a little more difficult when other band members begin to play their instruments, it might not be a bad idea to use the metronome in practice the first few times that a band plays the song together.
  If a drummer is off in what he does, there is a good chance that the rest of the band will not be able to keep rhythm either.
  
• Crank down the bongos - When tuning bongos, a person should not be afraid to crank them down.
  Too often people will confuse the sound of a bongo with the sound of congas.
  It is best to make sure that there is a distinct difference in the sound that comes from these drums.
