It's that time of year.
Time to "spring forward.
" Daylight Saving Time technically happens Sunday, March 13 at 2:00 a.
m.
We always look forward to the time when we "fall back" and gain an hour of sleep but this is the time where we lose an hour.
An hour of sleep that we all so desperately need especially as it happens over the weekend when we are trying to catch up on our much needed rest.
However, Daylight Saving Time isn't really all that bad.
We all have internal clocks that will eventually adjust within a day or two to the new time.
But the great part about it is we gain an extra hour of daylight in the evenings after work.
That leaves more time for us to spend outdoors, possibly exercising or doing other physical activities to help benefit our health and weight.
Do some extra gardening.
Sounds silly but even gardening burns calories.
You're not only enjoying a hobby but you're losing weight doing it.
Can't beat that.
With an extra 60 minutes of sunlight you don't have to rush home to get dinner on the table and the kids ready for bed.
The sunlight will help relax you from rushing and feeling like it is much later than it actually is.
Go for a walk with your significant other.
Now that the weather is starting to warm up and the flowers are blooming take a leisurely stroll in the neighborhood after work.
It will help you wind down after a long day at work as well as burn off some extra calories.
You'll also benefit by simply spending some time with your loved one.
Go to the gym after work rather than getting up early.
Your body temperature will be higher which means you will burn fat and gain lean muscle more effectively.
Take up an intramural sport.
It is a great way to stay in shape and make new friends.
Contact your local recreation department and see what is available in your town.
Soccer, football, baseball, softball, bowling...
you name it, it's out there.
Or simply spend an extra hour playing with your kids outside.
You both can benefit.
Again, with the extra sunlight you won't feel the sudden urge to race home thinking the night is almost over.
But don't forget sleep aids weight loss so make sure you also get your proper amount of hours of sleep.
