- The majority of plants grown in greenhouses thrive best at temperatures between 50 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit. If the temperatures drop below or above these parameters, slower growth is probable.
- In general, seedlings grow stronger and faster in warmer atmospheres. Mature plants typically prosper in a slightly cool environment. Neither stage of growth flourishes in extremely hot or cold greenhouses.
- Greenhouse temperatures affect plants in all growth stages. They influence nutrient absorption, water assimilation, photosynthesis and the pace of cell division.
- Depending on the style, geographic location and desired interior atmosphere of the greenhouse, heat may be provided by solar power, electric or gas furnaces, pipes into which hot water is pumped, portable heaters, or a combination of two or more of these sources.
