I was watching the move Taking Woodstock and reflecting on the Uranus-Pluto conjunction of that time, wondering how the upcoming square will play itself out. The union of transformation and rebellion in the 60s now at a challenging square. The 60s were a period of technological advance, revolt against oppression, both destructive and revolutionary forces in play at the same time. At the conjunction issues around woman rights were highlighted, now at the square perhaps it is time for gay rights to take the stage and finally be heard. Or perhaps it is a return to the feminine principal or at least an awareness that we have become too masculine in our ways and need to balance. How will these themes re-emerge in the world in a way that is now in conflict, as reflective of the squaring off of Uranus and Pluto. Will it be revealed that our destructive and greedy ways have gone too far and for too long in that we have blindly forced ourselves into global crisis? A crisis (Pluto) that we will need radical change and technological reform (Uranus) to simply survive on this planet?
According to Richard Tarnas in his book Cosmos and Pscyhe, we are already in the orb of the Uranus-Pluto square, as the square is within a 10 degree orb from 2007 to 2020. He speaks of the the alignment in terms of themes such as radical social change and cultural creativity, intensified feminist civil rights, changes in the global balance of power and time that is both creative and destructive yet certainly a tangible intensification. He talks of perhaps there being another feminist propulsion yet I wonder if the issues around gay oppression will be highlighted especially over the next 2 years while Saturn is in Libra. Saturn in Libra speaks to a restructuring of relationships in society, a time where state will get more involved in relationships and let's hope that the sprit of equality that is the essence of libra will overcome.
There is a line in the movie that is still reverberating in my being that really speaks to the Uranian archetype. Our main character is asked how he is doing and he answers "my problems are nothing in perspective with what you are going through" and the girl responds in kind "maybe your problems are the most important thing happening...perspective shuts out the love". Having Moon in Aquarius I have always prided myself on my perspective and yet of late have been complaining about the lack of passion and love in my life. This one line brought it home for me, perspective distances us from love. I think we all have much to learn from our polar opposite and for me in this case it is Leo. Leo is heart, fire, passion, love, validation. It is being in the moment and not being afraid to say what about me? Sometimes it's not about humanity and the collective sometimes it needs to be personal. We need heart and courage and passion to fight for what we love, for what is important.
