Medihoney hydrocolloid wound paste is one of many products forming MEDIHONEY™ wound and burn care dressings. This innovative honey-based dressing can be used for hard-to-reach areas and wounds with undermining or tunneling, which can both be signs of poor healing. For open, exposed wound beds as this, the all-natural components to Medihoney dressings
Medihoney paste is designed for the healing of lightly exuding wounds, caulking and filling crevices to provide a moist, protected environment. It can also help repair rough, dry skin and keep the wound bed moist to permit optimum healing and reduce scarring, often times limiting it significantly. Designed with timed-release technology to provide round-the-clock hydration therapy, Medihoney paste is specifically formulated for hard-to-reach problem areas like the elbows and knees. Its properties strengthen the skin's natural moisture barrier to promote softer, more supple skin. Medihoney paste and dressings are often used after surgical procedures and by patients who have difficulty with daily product applications and changing dressings.
The known value of Medihoney paste and other dressings is largely attributed to Leptospermum honey maintaining its active compounds and continued effectiveness in the presence of wound fluid. It is this property that distinguishes the active Manuka-derived honey from other types of honey, whose active components generally are not able to withstand catalase, an enzyme found in wound fluid. As with all Medihoney products, Medihoney hydrocolloid wound paste provides a moist environment that encourages healing. When wound exudate is absorbed, the paste is transformed into a gel. The gel remains intact until the dressing is completely removed via the use of regular tap water. From paste to gel, the product maintains a non-adhesive property that allows it to be removed and dressings changed with no pain or injury to the wound bed or the adjacent skin.
Medihoney paste is best applied liberally to the knees, elbows, or other areas requiring treatment, where it immediately begins to provide a 24-hour protective barrier against germs and infections. Medihoney products contain up to 95% active Lepterspermum Honey, sometimes referred to as Manuka Honey because of its origin from the Manuka and Jelly bushes of New Zealand and Australia. This honey contains several healing properties that are known to assist with chronic wounds and burns, as well as trauma and acute. Medihoney paste and dressings are excellent and commonly the choice in wound management when other treatments have failed.
