On May 1, 2009, Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s Buy Local Orlando campaign was launched to consumers to encourage economic recovery in the City of Orlando. The Buy Local Orlando campaign is a pro-active and practical approach for connecting the businesses of Orlando with the buying power of the local community.
More than 100 Orlando merchants participate in the Buy Local Orlando card promotion which offer a variety of discounts and specials for card holders.
Buy Local Orlando cards are available for FREE at participating merchants, City Hall, the Downtown Information Center, the Disney Entrepreneur Center or can be printed from the Buy Local Orlando website.
The Buy Local Orlando website lists the current participants of the program along with the promotion, special or discount that they are offering. Find merchants by category, zip code, neighborhood or alphabetical order.
Some of my favorites include:
- Infusion Tea - Buy 1 lunch combo, get one free.
- SMS Salon and Day Spa - 15% off any hair color service.
- Plaza Cinema Cafe - 50% off admission.
Even though it suggests registration on the card, it is not necessary to do so. If you do register your Buy Local Orlando card, you will automatically entered to win prizes from participating merchants and 98.9 WMMO. Periodic emails featuring local events, new merchant members, and special offers and discounts will also be sent if you supply your email address.
“When consumers choose to buy locally, those dollars are spent over and over again in the community,” said Mayor Dyer. “Local businesses drive our local economy by creating jobs and opportunities for our residents, purchase goods and services here, circulate money, maintain property values, generate tax revenue and strengthen our economy.”
