Rapid City is located in the Clearwater Township area of Kalkaska County, Michigan. Positioned just south of Torch Lake, the area is a popular destination for boating, fishing and riding. Winter activities include ice fishing and snowmobiling. Visitors will likely stay a few minutes north of Rapid City at a variety of resorts and lodgings on the southern shores of what locals refer to as the "third most beautiful lake in the world." - The family-friendly North Wind Resort is located 11 minutes from Rapid City on the southwest shore of Michigan's magnificent Torch Lake. Rooms are clean and basic with the usual amenities including refrigerator, microwave and wireless Internet.
The Torch Lake sandbar, sung about by Kid Rock in "All Summer Long," is viewable from the resort and only minutes away by foot. The lake shallows are a party zone over July 4th. Hundreds of aqua-pedestrians wade in ankle- to knee-deep crystal-blue water among scores of "parked" pleasure boats. Floating stages and concerts were organized in the past, but the events were recently scaled back because of noise complaints from shore.
