Can Too much Quantities Of Vitamin B12 Turn Out To Be Dangerous

A common concern of many people who take B12 supplements is whether taking large amounts can actually harm the body. Each country has set its own RDA or recommended daily allowance for vitamin and nutrient intake. The vitamin B12 RDA for male and female adults is 2.4 mgs. For females who are expecting a baby the RDA increases slightly to 2.8 mgs.

Toxicity

B12 has water soluble properties which means that it is non toxic when consumed in high dosages. If it is taken in amounts that exceed the daily recommended limits then, the body can get rid of the excess. You should only use these type of supplements if you are actually deficient in the vitamin. The best way to determine if you are really deficient is to get tested by your local physician.

Low Energy Levels

A number of side effects are linked to lower than normal levels of vitamin B 12 in the blood. Consistent warning signs that can be associated with low levels are feeling fatigued and lethargic. As the vitamin plays a vital role in the production of red blood cells it is essential for energy production.

Other side effects of a deficiency has been linked to eye problems however, there is no conclusive evidence to suggest that this is so. If a person has been deficient for a long time they could increase their risk of having a more serious health issue. This can happen because the vitamin also maintains the protective coating around the bodies nerve cells. Without this important protective layer the nerve cells would be easily exposed to damage.

Vitamin Deficiency

We can easily run low in this important vitamin in many ways.. A common cause can be linked to health conditions with the body's digestive system. In order for the body to benefit from this vitamin it needs to be absorbed properly in the gut. If the stomach is not producing enough acid for example, then the essential nutrients are wasted. Additionally, other health complications associated with the gut can inhibit the growth of healthy bacteria.

In cases like these ordinary vitamin supplements in tablet or pill form would not be any good as these also need to be absorbed in the gut. A more effective method is to give the individual a vitamin shot or injection with a needle. This method is more effective for the body to utilise the vitamin because it is directly injected into the human tissue or blood stream.
