How to Remove a Stain from a Hardwood Floor

    • 1). Sand off existing varnish where stain is located and 4 inches around area, down to bare wood using your roughest sand paper. Rough up the surface well and with the grain of the wood. Vacuum up your dust as this may be hazardous to others.

    • 2). Spray the stained area with a mixture of 50:50 water and bleach. Let soak for 12 hours. Wash and rinse off bleach well and dry for another 12 hours. When dry, sand off whitish coat of bleached wood with medium grit sandpaper. Vacuum again.

    • 3). When dry, sand off whitish coat of bleached wood with medium sandpaper. Vacuum all dust again.

    • 4). Apply stain and let dry completely. Sand again but lighter and with finer sandpaper. Vacuum and wipe down with a slightly moist clean rag.

    • 5). Apply second coat of stain and let dry. sand to a smooth finish and apply third/last coat of stain. Be sure to blend in with outside edges to match the rest of the flooring.

    • 6). Apply varnish. 1st coat lightly and let dry. Repeat 3 times, blending well to the outside edges of the stained area.
