- 1). Attach a camper shell specifically designed for a Dodge 1500 long bed that fits over the cab. This camper shell provides two clear areas: a sleeping area above the cab of the truck and a larger area over the bed. Use the bed area for sitting and storing things or just relaxing during the day and keep the upper area free for sleeping at night.
- 2). Connect a generator to the power supply or cigarette lighter inside your truck. The generator lets you use some of the modern conveniences of home while camping in your truck. Charge your cell phone, run your laptop or even use kitchen appliances, such as a can opener, ice cream maker or blender.
- 3). Lift your back window up and set the tailgate down if you are not using a camper shell. Attach a large tarp to the back window and attach the other end to two tent poles. This gives you a small area outside your Dodge 1500 for relaxing during the day and cooking. It also gives you space for sleeping or resting when it is raining.
- 4). Use screens on the back window of your truck and any other windows. These screens keep out bugs, animals and other creatures in the wilderness. When you keep the windows sealed shut, you stop air circulation, which also keeps the inside warmer, but the screens help cool things down.
- 5). Carry items that are easy to store but provide more comfort on your trip. Folding aluminum tables fold flat for storage inside the truck, but can be opened for cooking and playing games. A piece of carpet placed at the back of the truck keeps dirty shoes and mud from getting inside, but also rolls up when it needs to be placed in storage.
