- 1). Do your research before you meet face to face and have the chance to speak. This helps you learn more about the candidate and see what you might have in common. You can also find out his stance on specific issues and how that relates to your own life.
- 2). Leave your personal feelings at the door. Meeting a political candidate is your chance to see what he's like and what he has to say. If you bring your personal issues, you’ll be so blinded that you can’t focus on what he is saying or what he plans to do once in office.
- 3). Ask questions about his campaign, his personal life, or anything else that you feel comfortable talking about. Former political candidates have opened up about their homes lives or even shared a favorite recipe because someone asked. If you find yourself getting tongue tied, you can talk about something you have in common.
- 4). Speak eloquently about what’s on your mind or what’s in your heart. The best thing you can do is to express what you want, but do so in a tactful way. You’ll get your point across, but you won’t have to worry about how the candidate feels when you’re done.
- 5). Listen to what the candidate has to say before you start speaking. The worst mistake you can make is going in with your own perceived notions and ignore what he has to say. He may cover something that you’re interested in or he make talk about the issue you have in mind.
