The Prenatal Yoga Workout with Amy Griffith is a neat new pregnancy workout available for women at all stages of their pregnancy. Amy Griffith leads these workouts as a pregnant mother herself. She also has a background in yoga and in professional dancing as a Rockette. Not only is this series of workouts designed to strengthen and tone your body in pregnancy, but it also serves to strengthen your confidence in your body.
The DVD contains three separate workouts. There are 10 minute segments, a wall work out, and a chair yoga section. There is also a bonus guided relaxation. (Don't be tempted to skip this gem!)
One of the things that happens in many pregnancy workout videos is they have women who don't look pregnant or act pregnant. Amy has chosen other women to compliment her and to showcase all levels of pregnancy. This allows each pregnant woman watching to follow modifications that they may need in various stages of pregnancy.
In addition, the set for this video is clean, simple and not distracting. Don't laugh but this can make a huge difference when you're trying to work out. This one is a light, modern looking studio. It won't leave you thinking about dust bunnies hidden under your couch.
This video is great for beginners. Amy takes special care to ensure you are given a lot of detail on how to do each pose correctly. This can help prevent injury, which is important, particularly as a beginner in yoga.
There are props used in the video. I did not require them to do the workout, but I wasn't super pregnant when doing the video. So I would encourage you to think about purchasing the blocks, and consider using a towel or blanket from your home.
I loved the added segment on chair yoga. I sit in an office all day, so I sit a lot. While I don't know that I would do each of them, it's a good reminder and a great start at incorporating more movement into my sedentary work life.
Overall, I really liked the feeling from this series. It was positive but realistic and I really needed that in pregnancy. You can see her site and purchase the DVD at: http://www.exercisingbalance.com/
