com, we're very interested in writing, in particular, writing for the web.
Ziggy, an extremely talented guy we've known for many years told us recently he joined Linked In to inform the world he was switching careers.
"I'm no longer a writer.
I'm now a content provider.
" A body can react to this in a number of ways.
After all, everybody and their Uncle Enos calls themselves a content provider these days.
Our reaction? Aliens had obviously stolen Ziggy's soul.
This guy has been writing since he was 5.
He's won The National Book Award and The Pulitzer twice.
While these were only in Ziggy's mind, he is so steadfastly devoted to writing, the actual awards were almost beside the point.
All of which started us thinking - what's the difference between being a Content Provider and what Ziggy used to call himself - a writer? Wikipedia, as always, delivered big time.
We entered Content Provider and automatically got redirected to Value Added Server.
Note to Ziggy: your self-proclamation is already dangerously out-of-date! Rather than let rampant categorization run absolutely amok, we found ourselves turning back to where we always get our answers: the consumer.
Consumers go to a web page to get entertained or ferret out a useful tidbit of info.
For the consumer to get what they're looking for, somebody has to come up with good, punchy, interesting, engaging, well-written text.
In other words...
Writing.
Ziggy, call yourself Content Provider or Value Added Server or Information Dispatch Promulgator.
But if you want to succeed, keep honing your craft - make sure your next paragraph is a little better written than your last - and there will always be a place on the web for you!
