Diabetes And Stress- What You Can Do About It

A lot of us know that stress kills. But what a lot of us don't know is that stress can also cause diabetes and other diseases too. And when stress is present, blood sugar levels rise, and when they do, the pancreas (the organ around the abdominal area that produces insulin) works even harder to produce more insulin. But prolonged production of insulin from the pancreas causes the pancreas to eventually shut down, thus, causing diabetes.

With our fast-paced society the way it is today, a lot more of us are experiencing chronic stress (long-term stress) more than ever before, because we are working longer hours than ever before, we own more material possessions than ever before, we are bombarded with more responsibilities than ever before, and so on.

If you are already experiencing stress constantly and you're already diabetic, then your chances of reversing your diabetes are slim to none. Because stress among diabetics can lead to complications in the long run, or even death.

Although there are certain stresses that are unavoidable, the vast majority of the stress we experience is absolutely unnecessary.

Here are some solutions to reduce stress, and to eliminate or reverse diabetes:

- Surround yourself with people you enjoy being around, people who aren't causing you any drama. Any break away from people who are causing you stress in your life.

- Participate in any activities or hobbies you enjoy. They could be: listening to some good music, watching a sunset, sitting at the dinner table at home with your family and having conversations with them, and so on.

- Exercise -- it really helps reduce stress. It's not only good for the body, but for the mind and spirit as well. It can be anything you enjoy that involves constant movement of your body, like walking, biking, playing with your kids, hiking, dancing, etc.

- Last but not least, eat a healthy diet. Because our diets really play a role on our stress levels, and our stress levels effect how we eat. The type of foods we eat, just like exercising, not only affect our bodies, but our mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing.
