- Halter, one-shoulder and strapless dresses are either long or short with today's 70s-inspired fashions. Marc Jacobs showcased colorful halter and strapless dresses in bold patterns at New York Fashion Week for Spring 2011. However, the styles can be a solid color, such as the long, black one-shoulder dress by Zac Posen, for Spring 2010, in a sheer pleated fabric.
- Long, shimmery dresses are reminiscent of 70s fashion. Styles such as those shown by Ferragamo's Autumn/Winter 2010 collection are examples of the look. The dress is tight on top and billows on the bottom in a cascade of shimmery fabric. The disco 70s craze inspires the low necklines and metallic threads. The shimmery, bell-sleeve, above-the-knee dress by Erin Fetherston for Spring 2010 is another example.
- Floor-length exotic and Bohemian looks were popular during the 70s. The Bora Bora Maxi Dress by Seaton is an example of a 70s-inspired dress. The strappy casual dress is floor-length, which is a direct highlight of the 70s, in a paisley print carried over from the 60s to the 70s.
- The most 70s-inspired dresses include bright colors and patterns, such as flowers or paisley. For example; the designer Marc Jacobs, for his New York Fashion Week Spring 2011 collection, included burnt orange, plums, dark yellow and lavender. Pucci's maxi dresses for Spring/Summer 2011 are flowing in blue paisley. Safe colors and simple patterns are not 70s-inspired.
