VeggieTales: Lettuce Love One Another - Overview

This Veggietales DVD weaves together the following three stories into a show about different ways to show love to others:

  • Abe & the Amazing Promise: Patience is a virtue, and a way to show love to others. In this story, Bob interviews Abraham about waiting for God's promise to be fulfilled.
  • King George & the Ducky: In this story about a King who covets his neighbors rubber ducky, we learn that putting others first is a great way to show love.
  • Tomato Sawyer and Huckleberry Larry's Big River Rescue: This story spoof on Huck Finn teaches that not helping someone who is in need of help is just like hurting them, but helping someone in need shows great love.
The stories are woven together by dialogue between Bob and Larry, as well as a few quick animated shorts depicting bible stories that teach about ways to show love.

VeggieTales: Lettuce Love One Another - Guide Review for Parents

Lettuce Love One Another has a "love" theme, but not really a Valentine's theme, although there are conversation hearts on the cover. When we hear the word "love," the first thing that usually comes to mind is romantic love, or a feeling of caring and affection for someone, but this VeggieTales movie reminds us that love is also action.

Kids will learn that forgiving, helping, praying, sharing, showing patience, and putting others first are all ways we can love. The biblical references for each story also help kids understand more about the stories themselves, as well as how to apply the lessons to daily life.

With so many different stories in one VeggieTales show, it may be helpful to watch one at a time with kids and then discuss the lessons learned. During the week of Valentine's Day, challenge kids to show at least one type of love each day. At the dinner table or at bedtime, discuss as a family the ways each family member showed love for others throughout the day.

VeggieTales fans should note, if you have a lot of VeggieTales DVDs in your library, you may already own one containing one or more of these stories. If not, Lettuce Love One Another is a great compilation to add to your set. The DVD also contains several bonus features, like how-to-draw segments, that are both fun and educational for kids.

VeggieTales: Lettuce Love One Another - Bonus Features

  • How-to-Draw: Learn to draw Abe and King George
  • Silly Songs: "The Biscuit of Zazzamarandabo," "Sneeze if You Need To," "Endangered Love"
