- 1). Orient one of the sheets of canvas so that the shorter sides are horizontal and the longer sides are vertical. Measure the top of the sheet, making a mark at a point 1/3 of the distance from the left to the right side. Draw a vertical line from that point and cut along that line. The larger piece will become the front of your caddy and the smaller piece will become the bottom.
- 2). Cut the second sheet of canvas in the same way. The larger piece of this sheet will become the back of your caddy and the smaller piece will become the left and right side pieces. Orient the smaller piece so that the longer sides are horizontal and the shorter sides are vertical. Cut the smaller piece in half vertically to make two squat rectangles.
- 3). Sew the sides to the bottom, joining one of the shorter sides of the left side piece to one of the shorter sides of the bottom and one of the shorter sides of the right side piece to the other short side of the bottom. Use yarn in a darning needle or gimp. Use a whip stitch that is tight enough to be secure and loose enough to allow you to position the pieces. Darn in the ends of the yarn or gimp.
- 4). Sew one of the long sides of the front piece to one of the long sides of the bottom piece. Sew one of the long sides of the back piece to the other long side of the bottom. Darn in your ends.
- 5). Mark a line along the bottom of the caddy running from the left to the right side, in the exact center between the front and the back panels. Sew one long side of the remaining piece of canvas to the bottom along this line.
- 6). Stand the divider, the sides and the ends upright to make the shape of the caddy. Hold the pieces in place with the clips or clothespins while you sew them together at the four corners. Sew the divider to the ends along the width-wise center line.
- 7). Cut a hole in the top part of the divider large enough to use as a handle. Make sure you leave at least three rows of holes on the top of the handle so it will be sturdy.
- 8). Whip stitch around the top edge of the ends and sides, around the part of the divider/handle that extends above them and around the inside edge of the handle hole.
- 9). Decorate the caddy with gimp or yarn or leave it plain.
